Srinagar Police Intensify Crackdown with Fresh Raids Under UAPA in Bid to Crush Terror Network
Srinagar, May 5 : In a determined move to curb militant infrastructure and dismantle the support ecosystem aiding terrorism in Kashmir, Srinagar Police on Sunday launched a series of coordinated raids across multiple city localities. The intensified operations come under the framework of ongoing investigations registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to an official police spokesperson, the searches targeted individuals suspected of being associates of banned outfits and were executed in connection with several high-profile First Information Reports (FIRs) that span years of militant-linked activities.
Among the key locations raided were the residences of Bashir Ahmad Bhat and Tawheed Ahmad of Sozieth, named in FIR No. 73/2018 under sections 13 and 16 of the UAPA, registered at Police Station Rajbagh. Simultaneously, searches were conducted at the home of Ashiq Bashir Najar of Soiteng, linked to FIR No. 05/2022 at Maisuma Police Station and FIR No. 19/2022 at Khanyar, involving serious charges under IPC sections 302 and 307, Arms Act, and UAPA.
In Soiteng again, the houses of Salik Mehraj Dar and Umer Adil Dar were also combed in connection with FIR No. 20/2023 at Nowgam Police Station. Bilal Ahmad Mir alias Faffu from Parimpora was targeted in relation to FIR No. 29/DLI/21 investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Burhan Nazir Khushoo of Rainawari, who had previously been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in 2016, was searched due to his alleged involvement in FIR No. 48/2024 under UAPA. Likewise, Ashiq Malik of Panzinara—implicated in FIRs 30/2018 and 280/2017 and earlier detained under PSA—also faced a raid.
Additional suspects include Ishfaq Ahmad Wani of Hamdaniya Colony, Mudasir Ahmad Mir of Malikpora Barthana, Irfan Ahmad Lone of Bilal Colony Qamarwari, and Irfan Ahmad Seeru of Khan-e-Sokhta Nawakadal—all allegedly tied to terror-related cases involving arms smuggling and UAPA violations.
The final operation included a raid at the residence of Naseer Ahmad Mir of Saderbal Hazratbal, involved in FIRs 02/2020 and 109/2019 at Nigeen Police Station, which feature charges under the IPC, Explosives Act, and UAPA.
All searches were carried out under due legal process, in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses. Police stated that the operations aimed to recover incriminating digital evidence, weapons, and other materials essential to disrupting ongoing terror plots and gathering evidence for prosecution.
“These raids form a critical part of our broader strategy to dismantle the terror support network, disrupt planned conspiracies, and ensure the law catches up with those involved in anti-national activities,” the spokesperson added.
This sweeping crackdown marks a continued escalation in the administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and its enablers in the region.
