Srinagar, May 8 APN :In a significant escalation of cross-border tensions, Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire along the Line of Control (LOC) during the intervening night of May 7 and 8, targeting multiple sectors across Jammu and Kashmir. The targeted areas included strategic locations in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor, sparking a swift and robust response from the Indian Army.

According to official sources, Pakistani forces initiated the firing using small arms and heavy artillery, aiming at forward Indian positions along the LOC. The shelling, which lasted for several hours, was described as intense in certain regions, with artillery rounds and small arms fire reverberating across the border. Indian forces, stationed at key defense posts, retaliated with equal measure, effectively silencing hostile positions, as per military reports.

Local residents near the border reported hearing loud explosions and gunfire throughout the night, adding to heightened tensions in the region. "It was a night filled with the sounds of shelling. We stayed indoors, and many families took shelter in underground bunkers," said a resident of Uri, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Military officials confirmed that the Indian Army's retaliation was calculated and targeted, aimed at neutralizing enemy firing points without escalating the conflict further. "Our forces responded proportionately to the unprovoked aggression, ensuring no breach of Indian territory," an Army spokesperson stated.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage to property from the Indian side, though assessments are still ongoing. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, with heightened security alerts in vulnerable border regions.

The incident marks the latest in a series of border skirmishes that have periodically flared up along the LOC, challenging the fragile peace between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Diplomatic channels are expected to engage in the coming days to address the situation, though no official statements have yet been released from either side's foreign ministries.

Border residents have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions amid fears of further escalation. Authorities have also reportedly activated community alert systems to ensure timely communication in case of emergencies.https://boltnunfirsthand.com/u409jg3u5?key=72d86bca9d2752d3187107098cba0c9d

As the situation unfolds, both local and international attention remains focused on the LOC, with many hoping for restraint and dialogue to prevent further conflict.
