 Fresh Ceasefire Violation by Pakistan Across LoC Sparks Tension in J&K; Indian Army Responds Firmly

Srinagar, May 5: Tensions flared yet again along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistan Army units initiated unprovoked firing late on the night of May 4, targeting Indian forward positions across several sectors. This latest ceasefire violation shattered the relative calm that had prevailed along the border in recent weeks.

Sources in the security establishment revealed that Pakistani troops opened small arms fire in a coordinated manner across multiple sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. The firing, which began under the cover of darkness, appeared to be a deliberate attempt to provoke and destabilize the region.

In response, Indian Army personnel, maintaining high alertness, retaliated swiftly and strategically. "Our troops responded in a calibrated and professional manner to safeguard our positions and prevent any infiltration attempts," a senior army official said.

While there were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage on the Indian side, the incident has raised concerns about Pakistan's continued disregard for the February 2021 ceasefire understanding. Defence analysts suggest that such violations are often used by Pakistan as a cover for infiltration bids by militants ahead of the summer season, when snow melts make mountain passes accessible.

The situation along the LoC is being monitored round the clock, with additional surveillance and counter-infiltration measures in place. Civilian populations living near the LoC have been advised to remain vigilant.

This latest flare-up underscores the fragile nature of peace along the volatile LoC, where even a brief exchange of fire can escalate into larger confrontations, threatening regional stability.
