Delhi Airport Operations Normal Amid Enhanced Security Measures

New Delhi, May 11 — Operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) remain steady despite heightened security measures and adjustments in airspace dynamics, officials confirmed on Sunday. However, passengers are advised to anticipate possible delays in flight schedules and longer processing times at security checkpoints due to these measures.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which manages IGIA—India's busiest airport—issued a passenger advisory early on Sunday through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The advisory noted: “Delhi Airport operations continue as normal. However, due to changing airspace dynamics and enhanced security protocols, some flight schedules and processing times at security checkpoints may be affected.”
Heightened Security Following Regional Tensions
The increase in security protocols follows recent escalations between India and Pakistan. On Saturday, the two nations reached a mutual agreement to halt all military actions on land, air, and sea with immediate effect. In response, Indian authorities strengthened security measures across major airports, including IGIA, to ensure the safety and smooth transit of passengers.
DIAL has urged passengers to allow extra time for security checks and to cooperate with airline and security personnel. Typically, IGIA handles around 1,300 flight movements daily, making it one of the busiest air travel hubs in Asia.
Passenger Advisory and Cooperation Requested
The advisory, issued at 06:12 AM, emphasized the importance of passenger cooperation during this period of heightened alertness. “We request passengers to arrive early, follow security guidelines diligently, and support the smooth facilitation of operations during this time,” DIAL stated.
Passengers are also encouraged to stay updated on flight schedules and any potential changes by following official announcements and alerts from airlines and airport authorities. This proactive approach is aimed at minimizing disruptions while ensuring traveler safety.
As of now, airport operations remain stable, with only minor impacts reported at security checkpoints. Authorities assure that all necessary measures are in place to maintain passenger safety while minimizing inconvenience. (PTI)
